Tom's Take

Here's to a great start at Yapta!

Since we released our Beta product on May 22nd, we've had thousands of travelers tell us how much they love using Yapta to plan their travel and to get the best deal on airfare. In fact, due to the rapid groundswell of support, TIME.com (the online version of TIME Magazine) recently named Yapta one of the "50 Best Websites of 2007!"

It's obvious that finding the best deal on airfare is a pain-point that most travelers are all too familiar with. Prices rise and fall almost at random, making the ticket buying process very enigmatic, time-consuming and often frustrating. Yapta is helping make travel shopping easier by enabling people to pick the specific flights they want and alerting them when prices drop. Fortunately, most airlines have implemented pro-consumer policies that offer various forms of price protection, which means you can buy your ticket early and with confidence if you use Yapta to track prices.

Our mission is to assist your trip planning process by allowing you to "tag" the itineraries you're interested in purchasing and alerting you when the price drops, or -- if you have already purchased your ticket -- when you're eligible for price protection from your airline. However, during our Beta period, we realize that we're far from perfect and that we still have a lot of improvements to make. We've listened to your feedback and suggestions and have made some changes that we think you'll like:

1. We've added trip-tagging capabilities to the AirTran and ATA websites. We'll continue to add more airlines throughout the year -- including those that are conspicuously absent -- and eventually some top international carriers.

2. We've incorporated more specific flight itinerary information throughout the price tracking experience -- so your "My Trips" page now reflects added details.

3. We've enabled you to forward tagged itineraries to friends, family or colleagues so that you can let them know when you're coming.

We'll continue to listen to your suggestions and improve the Yapta experience -- so please keep the great feedback coming. Thank you for your continued support and keep tagging those trips!
